The Big Breakthrough club has been running since 1994 and is an offshoot from a Breakthrough club running at Stanley Deason School in Whitehawk. It is managed by Clive Manning a qualified teacher, and BA graduate (Fine Art). Over the years it has been staffed by volunteers from Brighton and across the world, including India, Africa, and The Cameroons and South America!
Local parents have also been involved as well as young members becoming junior helps and then adult workers. One of the strengths of the club has been the many teams of volunteers who have helped to put together lively programmes and organised the young people. Speakers visit the club by special invitation.
Until recently the club has been supported by The Church Of Christ The King and is currently maintained by The Brighton And Hove City Mission. Whilst running a normal youth programme there is a twenty minute teaching/discussion spot called The Big Issue, where the Christian faith is explored. The club is open to all who wish to attend providing they are in the appropriate age range, currently 7-11. It runs on Tuesday nights 5.30 pm till 7.00 pm from St. David’s Hall right in the centre of the Whitehawk estate. The contact number is 699325
